We accept select plans from the following insurance providers: United Healthcare, Oscar, & Aetna
Currently, insurance for mental health is designed for individual mental health treatment, not relationship work. In order to bill insurance for counseling services, a provider has to submit a diagnosis for an individual client and show that treatment provided is evidenced-based for that diagnosis. In relationship counseling, there are 2 or more clients, but insurance only allows us to bill for one identified client. We’re not treating one partner’s diagnosis, we’re helping both partners strengthen their connection and work through challenges together.
Because insurance companies don’t cover “relationship distress,” billing would require us to label one person as the identified client and assign them a diagnosis that isn’t really what we’re treating. Not only is that misleading, but it can also create tension by making one partner feel like the “problem” if they are the identified client in insurance. By staying outside the insurance model, we can focus fully on your relationship and give you the support you actually came for.
